4D Dynamics’ PicoScan 3D Scanner Uses DSLR, Pico Projector to Create 3D Models

No matter how you look at it 3D displays seem to be the future. While it may be annoying to have to ugrade your home theater, this gives photographers a whole new medium to play with. Sure, flat images can be and quite oftenly are amazing (depending on the photographer) but there is nothing like viewing an image that literally pops out of the screen at you.
However, if you’re just looking to make a 3D model of something without causing a fuss, you should check out 4D Dynamics recently released pico-projector based 3D scanner.
This set-up is essentially a Canon 1000D DSLR mashed up with a pico-projector as you can see in the above image. How it works is you move the camera around an object and it utilizes 3D software to create a 3D model of whatever object you’re scanning.
Pretty sweet and at just $2,000 it’s somewhat of a bargain.
