Alcor Micro to start shipping DVB-TH silicon tuner in late 3Q



Alcor Micro announced its shipment of “DVB-TH silicon tuner AU8901” for digital TV (DTV) related applications. The company explained that the silicon tuner, AU8901 is fabricated on 0.18-micron RF CMOS process. Alcor stresses that it is the first Taiwan-based Corporation introducing a silicon tuner made on a RF CMOS process. Company executives explained that by designing on the Zero IF (ZIP) structural design the development cost for the AU8901 solution came down noticeably since surface an acoustic wave (SAW) filter is no longer required. This tuner would cost on an average of US$ 2-2.50 and its shipment is slated to begin late in the third quarter.
