Are Film Cameras Doomed?

When’s the last time you have actually used an old-fashioned film camera? And I’m not talking about any handy disposable which you used to replace your lost or forgotten camera. Would you actually buy a film camera if I’d offer you a good deal on one?

A recent study shows the “imminent death of the traditional film camera” at least in the USA. How many people own a regular camera in 2009? About 48% which is a lot lower than 61% in 2008 or 67% in 2007.

Other interesting numbers show that the number of camera phone owners has risen steadily over the past three years: 70% of those asked had a camera phone in 2007, 78% had one in 2008 while 87% own one in 2009. People aren’t used to dealing with those digital cameras and it seems that uploading them to the Internet is fairly difficult. 90% want to upload pictures: 71% want to get those photos on their computer, 54% think of Facebook and 25% want to send pictures to Photobucket. How many actually succeed doing uploading a picture to the web? 74% in 2007, 81% in 2008 and 61% this year.
