Are You A Girl With A Camera Phone In Saudi Arabia?

Then you’re likely going to want to read this, assuming you’re actually allowed to.

There’s a girl over in Saudi Arabia–no one’s even a hundred percent sure what her age is as the school she attends claims that she’s twenty and Amnesty International claims she’s thirteen–who had a camera phone in school.  This apparently violates some kind of weird morality statute or something over there because she was arrested.

Her sentence, meanwhile, was handed down just yesterday–for the high crime of possessing a camera phone (they also said she “assaulted” someone over it, though considering the seven year age gap I’m not exactly convinced) she’s to serve two months in jail and be publicly flogged.  Ninety times. With a cane.

For possession of a camera phone.

Nice work, Saudi judicial officials–way to present a measured and reasonable response to this horrible menace.  I know I can sleep much more soundly at night knowing that someone, somewhere, is beating the hell out of little girls who have camera phones, and doing it under the auspices of the law.

And with that my sarcasm meter just burst into flames and the LED window is flashing “I QUIT” over and over again.
