Arecont Vision’s New MegaFlash Cameras

You might be wondering just what exactly a “MegaFlash” camera is.  Well, you’re not alone, because it took me a couple passes at the press release to figure it out myself.   So stick with me, settle in, grab a snack, because I’m going to make this as simple as I can.

Basically, the Arecont Vision cameras are a line of ultra-compact camera that’s capable of catching approximately one megapixel quality images of things moving really fast.  Like, for example, license plates.

The way they do that is they’re outfitted with external strobe lights that fuel license plate recognition and intelligent transportation system applications. These two applications in sync allow the Arecont Vision MegaFlashes to capture images of vehicles travelling up to 100 miles per hour.

It’s a cool idea, I suppose…though anything that adds to the capability of those red light cameras almost feels like an announcement for a new kind of ammunition that kills thirty percent more painfully.
