Argus II Gives Blind Limited Sight

Dean Lloyd is a pretty happy man right now.

Dean Lloyd started this month completely blind, as he had been for the last thirty years.

Dean Lloyd has partial vision now.

See why Dean Lloyd is a pretty happy guy?

Anyway, Dean is part of a thirty two member test group of blind folks who are trying out the Argus II, a combination of a tiny camera implanted in the frame of his eyeglasses and a series of electrodes extending to the back of his right eye, allowing him to, for the first time in thirty years, “see” lights and shapes.

I know, pretty low-res when you consider what all he’s missing, but remember–technology moves pretty quickly.  The eight bit Nintendo Entertainment System became the Wii in somewhere around twenty five years.  This could be just the start of some of the most amazing developments in medical science mankind has ever seen.
