Avatar Director James Cameron designing camera for Mars rover

Science fiction and science fact has united as James Cameron director of hit films such as Avatar, Aliens, and The Abyss is working on a high-resolution 3D camera for the next Mars rover.

This is for a Mars Mission in 2011, and it will give the rover known as Curiosity 3D imaging capabilities. NASA was actually intending to forget about the 3D camera due to budget restrictions, but Cameron convinced them it wasn’t a good idea.

I’m sure it will take years before we know whether it works out or not.
