Believe It Or Not: The iPhone DSLR Lens Mount Exists

Today, Gizmodo issued quite an interesting story concerning the iPhone. Now you may find this hard to believe but some guy actually created a prototype for a DSLR lens mount designed for the Apple smartphone. This device is made of solid, anodized billet aluminum and weighs 1.1 lbs. It’s built to work with an iPhone 3G, 3GS or 4 with a Canon EF lens.

However, this lens mount is not a true DSLR since it lacks an internal mirror system for light control when dealing with the iPhone’s camera sensor. Nonetheless, this special lens mount could theoretically improve on the iPhone’s 5 mega-pixel sensor, according to Gizmodo. Personally, I’m still grappling with the fact that somebody actually made this thing. Makes me wonder if a similar lens mount could be developed as a standard add-on for all camera-equipped smartphones someday.
