Flashlight DVR: A Flashlight With Built-In Video Camera

FlashlightDVR.jpg

At first glance, it might look funny. And I know, many of those who've read the headline would snigger at the thought of having a flashlight with built in video camera. But upon closer inspection and much thought into it, it is especially useful, most particularly during dangerous situations such as robberies or the like. Christened the Flashlight DVR, it can record in MP4 format stored in Mini SD memory cards up to 2GB in size. But there's also a USB 1.1 port if you prefer to use that instead. It features a built-in microphone, small LCD display, and a 4m night vision range. It weighs 520 grams without the three C batteries and costs US$400 in the Swann security web site.

JVC Everio GZ-MG730 Boosted With More Space

Everio%20GZ-MG740.jpg

A few days ago, we featured the new JVC Everio GZ-MG730 Digital Hard Disk Camcorder. With the Samsung Spinpoint A Series 30 Gigabyte hard drive, the camcorder features a whopping 30Gigs of space. The Everio GZ-MG730 is packed with features which, if you've forgotten, are detailed here. This time around, however, it seems JVC's upping the ante by adding TEN more gigs of space to the GZ-MG730, making it the new Everio GZ-MG740. While the original GZ-MG730 has JVC etched on the side, the GZ-MG740 has "Victor" on it, although as you might know, JVC and Victor are one and the same entity. Another difference would be the price. While the original goes for US$79.99, the Everio GZ-MG740 would retail at US$942.

DXG-565V Digital Camcorder: Surprisingly Good

DXG-565V.jpgIf you're looking for camcorder that's cheap yet chic, this might just be able to fulfill your needs. The US$99 DXG-565V camcorder comes in five different colors: Deep Sea Blue, Metallic Pink, Ruby Red, Midnight Black and Gun Metal. It features 2.4″ LCD, 4X digital zoom (which reflects the price, really), 5 megapixel CCD, and music playing and voice recording capabilities. What's "surprising" is that it can record DVD quality videos at 720 x 480 at 30fps in MPEG4 format. Even if just for that, the device is quite intriguing. It comes with earphones, wrist strap, camera case, AV and USB cables, AAA batteries and an editing software. All in all, costing only US$99 makes its quality doubtful, but even if just for the colors, it might be worth the buy if you wish to give it a chance. The DXG-565V Digital Camcorder would be available soon.

Lighter-sized Video Camera DVR-SP

Devices like this only used to be see in movies such as Mission Impossible. Well, not anymore. DVR-SP.jpg

As people get more and more enamored with ultra-small and ultra-portable shiny electronic gadgets, the smaller these consumer products will become. Japanese company Digital Cowboy has a lighter-sized video camera called DVR-SP. The device will record video on a microSD card of up to 2GB in 176x144. The DVR-SRP is almost negligible, weighing a mere 13 grams. And yes, it could easily be lost what with its dimensions of 73x20x11mm. Not the best camcorder in the world, but certainly noteworthy. The only concern is that it can easily be misplaced which makes it an ill fit for the naturally scatter-brained individual. The DVR-SP is available in Japan via the Digital Cowboy web site for USD$137.
