Camera Phones Slowly Getting In Step with Digital Cameras
Normally, a mobile phone with camera was never expected to compete against digital cameras made specifically for taking pictures. Perhaps that is one glaring reason why some phones were not really touted as being ideal for uploading images, mainly due to poor resolution and quality. But now, it seems that new phones coming out in the market are slowly bringing down that barrier, something that should materialize in a couple of years or so.
“The shortage of camera phone photos posted to the web presents a unique challenge for image hosting services,” said Dan Shapiro, CEO of Ontela. “The pictures people take with their phones are valuable to them, and are only getting more so as phone cameras get better and better. Obviously people are finding the process of getting the photos posted to be too cumbersome, which is a shame considering the fantastic five, eight, and even twelve megapixel devices available now.”
New phones in the market like the popular iPhone are slowly getting there. We see the dramatic increase in megapixels and resolutions. Hence, it is not going to be surprising at all if after some time now, we see them competing against digital cameras, although the latter would still hold the edge as far as resolution and quality is concerned.
