Canon 5D Mark 3 getting MPEG2 based video codec?

According to a new rumor, the upcoming evolution of Canon’s 5D, the Mark III (or Mark 3), will feature a new, more robust video codec in the form of MPEG2. MPEG2 is superior to the current video codec used on the 5D Mark 2, AVCHD/H.246. The new codec can record video with 4-2-2 color space, and a bitrate of 50mbit/s, a great improvement over the 35mbit/s in the 5D Mark 2. Canon is set to announce the 5D Mark III later this year, with a release slated for late 2011. At least, as far as the rumors are concerned.
