Canon A3100 Camera Review–That’s More Like It

Just yesterday I was bemoaning the comparatively high price for the lack of capability in the Canon A3000.  So today, I cover its direct descendant, the Canon A3100, and what I get here is a slightly higher priced model that offers quite a bit more in capability, bringing the value issue in line.

The Canon A3100 is a twelve megapixel digital camera that offers a 4x optical zoom and matching 4x digital zoom, a 2.7 inch LCD monitor, DIGIC III image processor, a variety of shooting and white balance modes along with photo effects, Smart AUTO mode to make setting selections for you, through-the-lens autofocus, burst shooting mode, built-in auto flash, VGA and WVGA video shooting capability, support for a variety of memory cards including Secure Digital and MultiMediaCard memory cards and direct printing capability.

You can see, immediately, that there are some improvements here–basically you get an extra two megapixel resolution for an extra ten bucks.  And it’s this distinction that really helps me get behind the A3100.  The A3000 was a good camera, no mistake, but it just wasn’t offering a whole lot for what you got.  The A3100, meanwhile, offers extra utility for just a bit more money, and that improves the package’s overall value as far as I’m concerned.

I can cheerfully recommend the Canon A3100, because it offers more for your purchasing dollar.  It’s a good quality piece that offers lots of extras, and as such, very much worth your time to consider.
