Admittedly, I’ve enjoyed a lot of what Canon has to offer in terms of compact digital cameras.  There have been a proliferation of great models from them, but the biggest problem I’ve had with them–especially lately–is their value to the consumer.  Well, today I’m tackling a Canon that doesn’t have a problem at all with value, and offers plenty of quality to go with it.  Today we’re talking the Canon A495, and it’s a welcome respite.

The Canon A495 is a ten megapixel digital camera with 3.3x optical zoom and an augmenting 4x digital zoom, a two and a half inch LCD monitor, DIGIC III image processor, a variety of shooting and white balance modes, the Smart AUTO mode for easy selecting of the best options on the fly, through the lens autofocus, burst shooting mode, auto flash, a variety of special effects, video shooting mode with audio, compatibility with Secure Digital and MultiMediaCard memory cards and direct printing capability.

Sure, there are some standards in here that are missing that we ordinarily like to see–no USB interface that I can find and no onboard memory are just two examples.  But the controls are pretty smooth, the zoom range isn’t half bad for a little point and shoot camera, and there are plenty of features here. You just saw that from the spec list above.

But here’s the part that means something to you–you get all this for a hundred and twenty bucks at Best Buy right now.  That’s a great price, even if the resolution is a bit lower than you’d normally see.  So if you’re in the market for a new camera, and don’t want to go used, then you’ve got all the opportunity you need right here with the Canon A495.
