Canon Develops A Machine For Detecting Breast Cancer Without The Use Of X-rays
Apparently, Canon has decided to expand its influence as a consumer business entity into the medical field lately. According to the Nikkei (from Japan), this company has created a machine designed to detect breast cancer without the use of X-rays. Currently, it’s estimated that at least 250,000 women in the United States suffer from breast cancer every year.
Furthermore, Canon claims that their technology gives them two advantages over regular mammogram machines. First of all, a Canon mammogram device will not expose patients to harmful radiation and second, the diagnosis would be a completely painless process. Canon worked with a research team from Kyoto University to develop this machine, which is based on laser and ultrasonic wave technology. So, technically, the device is not considered to be an actual mammogram machine. According to Canon, clinical studies at Kyoto University are set to start in the very near future and they plan to mass-produce the new machine in the next three to five years.
