Canon EOS 7D DSLR Camera Review–High Powered With A Price To Match

Yesterday you saw one great Canon DSLR, and sometimes, the best thing you can do is take an encore.  Thus, that’s exactly what you’re going to see today–a second fantastic Canon DSLR  that goes by the name of the Canon EOS 7D.

The Canon EOS 7D is an eighteen megapixel DSLR that offers a three inch Clear View II LCD monitor with reflection resistant materials, an eye-level SLR viewfinder, the DIGIC 4 image processor, face detection technology, a variety of scene modes, exposure modes, white balance modes and special effects, nineteen (yes, nineteen–not nine as you may have expected, but nineTEEN) point autofocus, a continuous shooting mode, a high-definition movie mode, and a USB port.

There’s an unsettlingly large amount of exciting stuff here; DIGIC 4 is downright amazing and this may well be the first time I’ve seen a nineteen point autofocus. Strangely enough, though, the zoom is not that long, having a 4.8x optical zoom, which is the kind of zoom you’d find on some cell phones.  Obviously I didn’t get to take any pictures with this thing, but considering the range was a bit on the short side the pictures themselves must be awesome.  The controls were pretty complex, but I think they’re within the range of even beginners.  Not basing that call on anything much more than the visceral look–clearly your mileage may vary–but they do seem like you’d get the hang of it fairly soon.

But this may not be the beginner tool for another reason–the price tag.  This sucker sells for a whopping eighteen hundred bucks at Best Buy, and that’s on SALE.  But still, there’s more than a bit to like here, and the Canon EOS 7D can pack a whole lot of utility and value into that package.  So if you’re looking for a digital camera, want something high powered and don’t mind a high powered price to go with it, then the Canon EOS 7D will be one to look at.
