Canon FS20 Camcorder Review–Good At A Low Price

If you’re in the market for a new camcorder–and that’s usually one of the best reasons to come here–you’ve probably already looked at at least a few Canons. And you’ve done so for good reason–Canon cameras do an amazing job of providing decent quality at more than acceptable prices. We’re talking about the Canon FS20, and it’ll fall right in line with the standard Canon.

The Canon FS20 offers a 37x optical zoom with a supporting 2000x digital zoom, a 2.7 inch widescreen LCD display, a DIGIC DV II image processor, image stabilization, a digital still camera mode that shoots in 1152 x 648 resolution, a variety of special effects, Dolby Digital audio recording, eight gigs of onboard memory, support for the Secure Digital line of memory cards, a USB port,

There’s a surprising amount of features here–Dolby Digital and onboard memory doesn’t show up on just any camcorder’s spec sheet any more. The zoom has a pretty good range–seems like it clears the hundred feet mark–and the controls work pretty well. I wasn’t all that enthusiastic about the zoom button’s placement.  But here’s the real kicker–it might surprise you, but Best Buy’s only asking a hundred and eighty bucks for one of these.

I may have a couple minor gripes here about button placement, but for those of you in the market for a new camcorder who don’t want to break the bank but still want plenty of quality features, then you’ll definitely want a look at the Canon FS20.
