Canon FS200 Camcorder Review–Great If You Get Past The Layout
The Canon line of camcorders has always given me a lot of highly satisfactory results. In fact, I can’t even remember the last time I dealt with a Canon that didn’t at least manage to provide a decent camera. Sure, sometimes there are problems but these are of the simplest sort. And the Canon FS200 would be pretty much perfect but for one tiny flaw.
The Canon FS200 camcorder offers compatibility with a variety of memory cards, 41x Advanced Zoom (which is a Canon-specific process that improves the quality of the zoom, but you can also select a 37x optical zoom or a 2000x digital zoom), a DIGIC DV II Image Processor, image stabilization systems, a 2.7 inch LCD screen, video snapshot mode, quick start and quick charge capabilities, joystick control, variable zoom speed control, low light performance capability and a variety of shooting modes.
See? A pretty terrific camera overall, right? Lots to like here? There’s only one real problem–the button layout is a little off the wall. I had never seen a camcorder that put a power button in the spot where the Canon FS200 located theirs.
But aside from that, this is an excellent camcorder with lots of range (I got small print from about seventy feet out with this) and plenty of features. And the price–two hundred fifty dollars on Amazon–isn’t a reason to complain either.
