Canon G12 now official

During August we mentioned the Canon G12 but at that time there wasn’t any official details, the situation changed today because Canon has made an official announcement.

With that being said the Canon G12 is a camera that can record video in HD (720/30p) and comes with a 2.8-inch LCD screen packed with 461,000 dots of resolution. In addition to the 10-megapixel sensor it has an optical zoom of 5x, Canon DIGIC 4, and an improved Macro mode.

With the use of a tripod, one push of the shutter button yields three sequential images with various exposures, and then combines them into a single optimized image. A feature such as this typically requires outside software, however, this process can be completed within the camera thus helping to eliminate one critical step in the creation and editing process.

The Canon G12 will become available for purchase on October 2010 for $500.
