Canon HF-M300 Camcorder Review–Good If You Don’t Mind Expensive
Canon camcorders are usually high quality–they have to be; Canon‘s been in the game for so long they’ve forgotten more about making cameras than most of us will ever know. But here’s the kicker–sometimes they could stand to learn a lesson or two about VALUE. And today’s review target, the Canon HF-M300, shows clearly that they need a remedial course.
The Canon HF-M300 is a 3.89 megapixel camcorder that offers a 2.7 inch LCD touchscreen monitor, a 15x optical zoom with augmenting 300x digital zoom and 18x Advanced Zoom. It also offers a DIGIC DV III image processor, optical image stabilization, both manual focus and autofocus, night recording capability, a variety of white balance modes, face detection technology, smart auto mode to adjust settings according to changing conditions, dual shot mode to go from still shooting to video on the fly, Dolby Digital 5.1-channel audio recording support, support for Secure Digital media cards, USB and HDMI with x.v. Color and included editing software.
Of course, you can see that this camera’s packing a whole load of features, and make no mistake, this is an upscale camcorder. The controls are pretty easy to use and the zoom has some good distance–looks like about a hundred feet by my estimate. However, there’s a whopping big downside to the Canon HF-M300–the price. Specifically, it costs six hundred and eighty bucks out at Best Buy.
Anyone looking for a good camcorder at a good price will be more than put off by this one, but if you don’t mind shelling out for good quality, take a look at the Canon HF-M300.
