Canon Recalls 1D Mk III and 1DS MkIII Cameras

Two flagship cameras from Canon have been recalled due to issues regarding their hinges. The models affected are the 1D Mk III and 1DS MkIII cameras. The two flasgship DSLRs are suffering from “lubricant in the mirror box” and “ring shaped spots”.
Rarely would you see Canon issue a critical recall, particularly in the area of focusing issues. And while the intent is good, the outcome may not be all that comforting especially for consumers who have looked up to Canon as one of the quality cameras preferred today.
The problem is too much lubricant being added to the hinges where the internal mirror flips up. This is causing the oil to splash around and end up on the high-pass filter over the sensor which in turn leads to spots on images.
