Canon SD960IS Digital Camera Review–High Price, Nice Camera

Canon can usually be relied on to put out a quality product, if for no other reason than they’ve been in the business so long.  And of course, they’ve kept up with the camera industry nicely, which is why they can be counted on to put out a good digital camera too, like the Canon SD960IS.

Advance warning–this is one case where you do get what you pay for, with all that implies.

The Canon SD960IS is a twelve megapixel camera with a 4x optical zoom (and a 4x digital to match), a 2.8 inch LCD display, image stabilization, a variety of scene modes, face detection, a specialized through the lens autofocus, a variety of white balance controls, built in auto flash, 720p video shooting capability, compatibility with a variety of memory cards (including various iterations of Secure Digital and MultiMediaCard) and a USB connection.

I actually really like this one, because the button layout is pretty nice, although I have to admit that the buttons are pretty small to deal with.  Though that’s sort of a natural consequence of the smaller camera.  And for the color-change crowd, this one comes in your choice of four colors, so I’m less than convinced that the whole “if it comes in different colors, it’s crap” argument has a lot of weight to it.

Still, the Canon SD960IS is a pretty nice camera, though it comes at a whopping price of fully two hundred eighty bucks.  It really is, however, a case of getting what you pay for–even if you can do about as well for a lot less expense.
