Canon SX120 Camera Review–Dissatisfaction

So normally I’m happy to cover a Canon camera.  After all, as I’m really fond of saying, these guys have been in the business for a really LONG time now, so it’s not like they don’t know what they’re doing by now.  And they do, of course they do!  But sometimes, there are exceptions that prove the rule.

The Canon SX120 is one of those exceptions, a ten megapixel camera with a 3.0 inch LCD screen, a DIGIC 4 image processor, optical image stabilizer, and the Smart AUTO system that detects and analyzes faces, brightness, colors, distance, and movement, which is a whole lot of analysis wrapped into one system.

So you might be wondering what my problem with this is.  It’s not price–it’s perfectly reasonable at two hundred bucks–it’s the design I have a problem with.  It’s got a pretty steep learning curve on it, and I really don’t like the “option wheel” they’ve put in there.  It’s just not that accessible.

Thus, I’m a bit dissatisfied on this one, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be.  So keep the Canon SX120 in mind, but know that I think there’s better out there.
