Canon has just announced a series of products including a whole lot of digicams and lenses. The Canon EF 85 mm f/1.2 L II USM is the latest addition to the L-series prime lens. This medium telephoto is an upgrade to the original EF 85mm f/1.2L USM while retaining its classic features like impressive optical performance and large aperture. This particular lens offers the widest possible aperture in the EF series and is a perfect portraiture lens for great depth of field.

The Canon EF 85 mm f/1.2 L II USM has a circular aperture diaphragm for attractive bokeh (evenly graduated blurring of out-of-focus areas) and has the Canon Ultrasonic Motor technology (USM) for fast and near silent auto focus which would make it ideal for shooting sporting events indoors. The Aspherical lens results in sharp images and details are even retained on the corners. Contrast is also maintained even in out of focus objects even at wide apertures.

This lens uses anti reflective material for getting rid of reflection and sports the Canon patented Super Spectra lens element coating. The coating increases light absorption and irritants like flare and reflection results in sharp and detailed images. Another great feature of the EF 85 mm f/1.2 L II USM is its capability to transmit information to the E-TTL II flash system for improved flash photography. It sports only lead free glass and comes with a cylindrical lens hood and lens pouch. Expect it to be available around April 2006 with a price of price of $2,099.
