Chicago Goes Far Beyond Traffic Cameras
The word out of Chicago right now–and Chicago readers, I’m inviting you to post your comments on this one–is that it’s rapidly becoming the center for security cameras being literally everywhere in the United States.
In fact, a lot of activist groups are up in arms over the recent revelation that Shytown’s got a whole lot of eyes and not just in the skies, either. The City of Chicago has an estimated fifteen thousand cameras located all over the city, though Chicago officials will not comment on exact numbers or locations of cameras, a development that’s got the ACLU freaking out. Check out what they had to say about it via Charles Yohnka, director of communications and public policy for the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois:
“With the unbelievably rapid expansion of these systems, we’d like to know when enough is enough.”
A question we’d all like to know the answer to…sadly, Chicago officials don’t seem to be interested in giving THAT one up either.
