Chicago Too Broke To Install More Red Light Cameras

Now THIS might be the scariest news you’ll read all day.

Apparently, the city of Chicago is so cash strapped that they can’t afford to install any more of the universally hated red light cameras.  Perhaps the greatest irony of the whole mess is that red light cameras are generally regarded as a revenue MAKER as opposed to a revenue LOSER.

How bad do things have to get when you can’t install more money-makers?  I mean, come on.  I know credit is tight and all but surely there’s a bank somewhere in Chicago who’d front the dough in exchange for a cut of the revenue.  Seriously, there’s got to be another option they’re not considering.

Not that I’m complaining, of course.  If every red light camera in the country simultaneously burst into flames tomorrow I wouldn’t be terribly upset.  I find them intrusive and their use unethical.  But they’re here, and chances are they’re not going.
