Cisco-Pelco To Make Security Webcams?
Well, I guess that Cisco’s been reading both us out here at Image Acquire and the Zimbabwe News for our coverage of the idea of using webcams as security cameras, because they’ve teamed up with Pelco to make a new and exciting line of high-definition Internet protocol security cameras. Here’s the official word out of the grand industrial complex that is Cisco-Pelco:
The companies didn’t give any financial details, but said cameras built under the collaboration might go on sale by the end of the year. They’ll carry both company brands.
So yes, that’s not necessary a merger name, but the security cameras will apparently be referred to as Cisco-Pelcos and be marketed under both names as well. They’ll be built via a combination of Cisco’s IP hardware and Pelco’s HD technology. This could be a fairly interesting development, as people have been improvising webcams to serve as security cameras for some time, and watching the Cisco-Pelco alliance step in and make a line for that market is downright cheery.
