DSLR Review: Nikon D40

Another website to review the Nikon D40 was Cnet and they like the DSLR for its compact form factor, its customizable menu, its user-friendliness for beginners and great noise characteristics for high-ISO shots. However they did notice the lens kit to be slow, found the control scheme awkward and the camera also lacked automatic sensor cleaning.

With the Nikon D40, Nikon did not succumb to the Pixels race and have stuck to a 6MP Resolution and this one pretty great for an amateur photographer. It includes features like; ISO 3200 Setting, t customizable Auto ISO, a viewfinder , shorter, a bright and large LCD monitor, SDHC support, in-camera retouching etc. The D40 lacks an internal focus drive motor meaning it can be Auto Focused with only AF-S and AF-I lenses (those with built-in focus motors).

In the end the website concludes ” If you’re just looking for a great, cheap dSLR, the faster, higher-resolution Canon EOS Rebel XT is probably a better bet; and if you’re an experienced shooter, you might want to spend more for the Nikon D80. But if you’ve got a budding photographer in the family or want to step up to your first dSLR, the Nikon D40 is a great choice.”
