Even Gaming Notebooks Offer Webcams These Days

File this under the strange and growing philosophy called “everything needs a camera”, as MSI announces a new kind of gaming-geared laptop called the GE600.

The specs on this thing are actually pretty impressive–an Intel Core i5 processor, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 graphics with 1GB of dedicated RAM, your choice of a two hundred fifty, three hundred twenty or five hundred gig hard drive,  7.1-channel audio output, touch-sensitive hotkeys, MSI’s GPU Boost overclocking technology, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi, HDMI video output, three USB 2.0 ports, eSATA, Windows 7 Home Premium, and an optional 9-cell battery.

Sounds awesome, of course, but what does that mean to us?  Not terribly much until you consider that the GE600 comes with a 720p webcam on top of it all.

Don’t get me wrong, this is an awesome package and I’m glad to be able to tell you about it, but seriously, DID it need that camera?  Or is this some kind of weird new philosophic push on the part of manufacturers to get added value out of most everything by adding on a camera?
