FBI Probes PA School for Netbook Spying Webcams
The fact that students were awarded netbooks by a school for their official use may be impressive but spying on them within the walls of their actual home is not so cool. This was an issue that came out as early as last week and while they were denied, the FBI has stepped in to intervene.
The Lower Merlion School District in PA is the school under hot water. They had issued 2,300 Apple laptops to students where webcams were reportedly activated remotely to monitor a student’s behavior. The only problem is that parents were not informed of this scenario. A suit was filed last week after a student was allegedly shown an image of “inappropriate behavior” inside his home by a school staff.
