The new Leica M Monochrom offers an interesting “killer app” feature: it only shoots in black and white. And to make it even more interesting, the Leica M Monochrom only shoots black and white for the net sum of $8,000 per camera. That’s 8 grand for a camera that only shoots black and white, but we can imagine the B/W images to be quite stunning. the Leica M Monochrom specs are still quite impressive though, as the camera features a full frame sensor and RAW mode.

Leica M Monochrom specs

Here are the full specs for the Leica M Monochrom camera:

ISO range of up to 10,000

2.5 inch LCD screen

Range finder type optical viewfinder

RAW mode with 14 bit uncompressed photos

Magnesium construction

Full frame 35 mm sensor

Leica M Monochrom price and availability

The Leica M Monochrom will retail for $7,970 and will be sold in limited quantities in Europe and North America. The Leica M Monochrom is still one of the most expensive cameras on the market, despite only shooting in black and white. Adobe’s Creative Suite is the de facto standard when it comes to photo editing. Its photoshop software is used by photographers and pretty much everyone else worldwide, and now there’s a new version out. Called Creative Suite 6, Adobe has released all new versions of its Photoshop, Fireworks, InDesign, Illustrator, and other software. The whole suite retails for just under $3,000. If you only want Photoshop CS6 though, you’ll “only” have to fork over $699, or $999 for Photoshop CS6 Extended. if you’re a student, there are discounts to be had, as usual. But Photoshop CS6 still remains one of the most expensive image editing apps out there.

Things just got worse for film lovers, once again. Fujifilm North America has increased 35mm film prices by a whopping 20%. While digital has taken over the world of photography, film is still used by hard core professionals and by disposable cameras. These cameras are now likely to increase in price drastically, as Fujifilm’s 35mm film prices are now selling for 20% more. This will result in disposable camera price increases of about 15%, according to market analysts. Fujifilm reasons the price increase as a result of declining film demand, and the higher costs of manufacturing film. 35mm film prices are likely to go up in price over the next few years, as the technology gets more and more obsolete. It’s unclear whether Fuji will also increase motion picture 35mm film by 20% — this will massively increase movie production costs. But only for those still shooting on film.

The Canon 5DX is said to be the new, entry level full frame DSLR camera from Canon. The company just released the 5D Mark III full frame DSLR camera, but according to new rumors, Canon isn’t done with full frame cameras for 2012. The new rumor suggests that Canon will counter Nikon’s upcoming (and rumored) Nikon D600 with a cheaper, entry level full frame version of the 5D, called the Canon 5DX. Not much is known about the new Canon 5DX camera, only that the company is considering to bring some competition to Nikon in the new market segment. The new Canon camera is expected to be released during the end of 2012, according to the report. This would give Nikon about a six month head start with the Nikon D600, as it’s set for release this Summer. But all of this is rumoring, at this point. The new entry-level full frame Canon 5DX will replace the 5D Mark II, which is still on sale despite the arrival of the 5D Mark III. The Canon 5DX price is allegedly said to be very competitive with the D600, at $1,500.

According to the latest rumors, Nikon will be introducing a new full frame DLSR camera called the Nikon D600, which will be a lot of cheaper than the currently revealed D800 and D4. The D600 will include a 24 MP full frame sensor and will be marketed as the “starter” full frame DSRL for users looking to make the jump into the “big leagues” but don’t have the necessary funds to do so.

The Nikon D600 is said to pack a 24 MP full frame sensor, dual SD card slots, built-in GPS, and a launch date set for this Summer. And price wise, we’re looking at something as low as $1500 — for a full frame camera. Now that’s a bargain. The company will keep the price down in the Nikon D600 by eliminating certain features, like built-in HDR more, and autofocus motor. With no autofocus motors, it means the Nikon D600 can only use newer AF-S lenses.

The most expensive lens in the world is Nikon’s Nikkor 6mm f2.8, a fish-eye lens that only a handful of copies were made of.
And only a handful of them are still available. This lens recently sold for a whopping $160,000 at an auction. The Nikkor 6mm f2.8 was originally introduced in 1972 and offers a viewing angle of a staggering 220-degrees. As you can see on the image above, it’s a huge lens that’s only suited for very special photography. You won’t be carrying this one around on your holiday trip, even if you have the $160,000 to buy the most expensive lens in the world.

Nikon’s new flagship full frame cameras, the Nikon D800 and D4, are getting new underwater housing enclosures. However, these housings are state of the art, just as the cameras they are set to protect from the water. Because of this, the D800 underwater hosing costs a reported $3,700, while the D4 underwater housing will cost more than $4,000. That’s almost as much as the cameras themselves, so you have to be a really avid underwater photographer and/or videographer to spend that kind of money on accessories. The Nikon D800 and D4 udnerwater housings are made by Hugyfot and will be available for order online soon.

Canon has launched a new version of its popular 5D camera: the Canon 5D Mark III is now out and offers better image quality and more important for videographers: it offers better video as well. The new camera is priced at $3,500 and includes an improved processor and image sensor, which now sports 22 megapixel. The old 9 point autofocus system has been replaced by a much better 61-point AF system.

Other Canon 5D Mark II features include a new Digic 5+ image processor, and ISO of up to 25,000, with an expanded ISO up to 102,000. The 22 MP sensor gives maximum image sizes of 5,784 x 3,856 pixels. On the video side, it’s pretty much like last time: 1080p (24/25/30 fps), 720p (24/25/30/50/60 fps).

The upcoming Nikon D3200 will have WiFi via an adapter, and not integrated, as previously thought. The Nikon D3200 has finished development and is expected to be announced later this month at a Nikon event. Previous reports suggested the camera would be the first Nikon DLSR to have built-in WiFi, but it looks like this feature has been put off until later models. Sensor wise, the D3200 is expected to pack a high-res 24 MP sensor, the biggest sensor (MP wise) for a Nikon entry-level camera ever.

The Nikon D3200 is a modest upgrade from the D3100, which is the entry-level DSLR that Nikon offers. Just like its predecessor, the Nikon D3200 is expected to retail at around $500 with a kit-lens. The WiFi adapter will be sold separately and will make it possible for Nikon D3200 users to email and share their photos on social networks like Twitter, Facebook and more.

While Google’s Android is typically reserved for devices like smartphones and tablets that may be changing in the near future. Rumor has it companies like Samsung are looking at the possibility of producing cameras running Google’s open source platform. To our knowledge, a dedicated camera powered by Android has never hit the market. On the other hand, we have seen that Android is capable of handling picture taking as just about every smartphone (and tablet for that matter) comes complete with a camera in one form or another.

Due to the massive amount of developer support already behind Android is would be very interesting to see how this support would translate from smartphones/tablets to cameras. What do you think? Is an Android powered camera something you would be interested or do you think the software is better suited for smartphones and the like? Sound off in the comments below.
