Fujitsu IP-9500 4.0 MPEG-4 AVC Encoder Wins Pick Hit Award at 2009 NAB Show

The newest version of Fujitsu Computer Products of America Inc.’s encoder gained the approval of broadcasting engineers as the best encoding solution at the 2009 NAB Show. The Fujitsu IP-9500 4.0 was lauded for its leading-edge feature set, including the ability to simultaneously transmit high-definition (HD) signals using 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, allowing broadcasters to efficiently and cost-effectively utilize either format based on their existing infrastructures.

The Fujitsu IP-9500 is the industry’s leading AVC/H.264 encoding solution for real-time broadcast quality contribution content. The IP-9500’s exceptional picture quality at low bit rates and low-latency enables HD satellite news gathering (SNG) and live events transmission using existing broadcast satellite infrastructure. In addition to the simultaneous 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 transmission, the IP-9500 4.0 integrates a cutting-edge process for maintaining non-degraded 4:2:0 chroma resolution to preserve picture quality throughout the entire communications link.

The IP-9500 4.0 also features DVB-S and DVB-S2 modulation capabilities, eliminating the need for separate modulators when broadcasting via satellite. Other enhancements include advanced MPEG-4 AVC encoding for real-time DVB and IP transmission of HD/SD media at lowest possible bit rate for any given video sequence, high performance H.264 compression algorithms which reduce bitrate and bandwidth requirement by more than 50 percent compared to MPEG-2 systems, and a full-duplex VoIP intercom to provide interactive communications between encoder and decoder locations.
