Garmin Unveils Garmin Oregon 550 and Oregon 550t

They may be GPS devices but they also carry a 3.2 autofocus camera with a 4X digital zoom. The camera has 850MB of internal storage but also has a microSD card slot for additional storage and data transfer. The pictures are geotagged so you can know exactly where they were taken.

This water-proof GPS is expected to attract a lot of attention in the market. It has detailed street maps and turn-by-turn directions. It has hiking-specific topo maps and marine data too. Best yet — both models are compatible with Garmin’s heart-rate and speed/cadence sensors from the Edge and Forerunner, so you can use them on a bike or while running. The screen is designed to be legible in bright sunlight.

The Oregon 550t comes preloaded with 100k topo maps with 3D elevation and will retail for $600. The Oregon 550 will sell for $500, and the release date hasn’t been confirmed. They each weigh 6.8 ounces and run for 16 hours on a single charge.
