Digital Lenses -A Short Guide
One of the most important aspect of any photography is its lens and if you have a DSLR or a SLR , you know important these babies are. After spending big bucks on your new DLSR it is obvious that you want the very best and luckily that doesn’t mean the most expensive lens! We shall now delve into some important points which should be kept in mind while Lens Shopping.
First of all decide what kind of lens you want. DSLR Kits usually come with a short zoom lens and its up to you to determine if its enough. On a side note I always recommend buying the whole kit cos the included lens is always value for money. The main two kind of focal length are telephoto and wide-angle where the former is used for general photography like close ups, portraits etc and the latter used for indoor photography and landscapes.
If you are into wild life photography or want portraits then fast lenses are pretty handy. Apertures are measured in f/stop numbers (ratio f the size of the lens aperture and focal length). This is one of the most confusing aspect of photography and just remember smaller the aperture is equal to more light thus f/1.4 lets more light than f/2.0. You should also take a look at add on lenses and accessories like lens conversion kit which changes the focal length of a particular length. These lenses can add or reduce the focal length by great proportions and a cheap but great way to experiment.
