Gentex Making a Comeback Thanks To Rear View Mirror Camera

When you think about the auto industry in Michigan, one of the first things to spring to mind is probably not Gentex Corp. in Zeeland.  No, you think about the big three and Detroit, but Gentex is actually staging a bit of a comeback, and it’s all thanks to a product that means something to us: rear view mirror cameras.  The company lost about a fifth of its employees, but is actually looking to make some rehiring moves.

Gentex manufactures a high beam headlight system as well as a kind of high-resolution camera, which is in the rear of the car and directs an image to the rear view mirror showing exactly what’s behind the car.  Check out the word from the company on their product and comeback

Based on CSM Worldwide projections for light vehicle production, the company expects net sales in the fourth quarter of 2009 to increase 30 to 35 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2008, senior vice president Enoch Jen said.  Gentex products can be found on wide range of cars, both foreign and domestic. Examples of brands with the Gentex’s rear camera display mirrors include Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai and Kia, Hamblin said.

What saved these guys, clearly, is having essentially only one dog in the operation, the GM account.  But with GM looking to launch a dozen new models and Ford still in decent shape, it’s looking up for one company and its rear view mirror cameras.
