How Many Security Cameras At the Winter Olympics?

The answer:  It’s over one thousand.  And feel free to read that just like Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z would.

Vancouver police have set up a massive network of security cameras all over the city in a bid to catch any and all potential miscreants, be they terrorist, protester, or otherwise threatening the Winter Olympics. And indeed, “otherwise” just blundered into their network already–a man engaged in public drunkenness.

Naturally, Vancouver cops are giving loud hue and cry to the incredible might of their camera system, because it’s already paid off in the form of catching one lone drunken Canadian.

In Canada, this is actually considered a major crime wave.  Word is he will be sent to bed without supper for THREE WHOLE NIGHTS, and then awarded a smiley face badge and a teddy bear, as well as a sizable pension, for his successful completion of jail.

No, I’m kidding about that last part–clearly I’ve seen Canadian Bacon one too many times (course, here in the States we would’ve shot him many times with our collections of assault rifles) .  But still, a thousand cameras and all it’s done so far is catch a random drunk?  The phrase “overkill” does come to mind, but still–so does “better safe than sorry”, especially with something like the Olympics.
