Insignia NSDV720P Camcorder Review–Good Idea Poorly Executed
I have to admit that I had a few issues with today’s review target, the Insignia NSDV720P, and yet at the same time found some things I liked about it.
The Insignia NSDV720P is a five megapixel camcorder that offers 3x digital zoom, 720p video recording, image stabilization, low-light shooting capability, ninety megs of internal memory (along with SD and SDHC memory card support), USB interface and included software.
It always strikes me as weird when I can badmouth and praise something in the same couple of breaths. It’s strange how something can screw something up so badly–for instance, the zoom on this thing is UNBELIEVABLY short, and even when you try for the maximum range (which is maybe only ten feet or so), the image devolves into this blurry video sludge. And yet, at the same time, I like that this camcorder–because that’s what it is, after all–is so small and easily transportable. But there are several camcorders not much bigger than this that will do a much better job than this one ever will. And considering it’s selling for not too much less than those others–a hundred and thirty bucks at Best Buy–you may well be better off going with one of them.
Thus, the Insignia NSDV720P is a nice idea that’s poorly executed.
