Is Canon Working on DSLR-Like Professional Camcorder?

This is just an unconfirmed rumor so far but people are saying that Canon is working on a professional camcorder based on a 12.1 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor. This sensor is similar to the one in the Rebel XSi and the whole idea is rather interesting. We’ve seen various attempts, some better than other, to capture video with DSLR cameras so why not make that dream a reality?

The new camcorder should look very similar to that XL H1 camcorder in the picture here and it will have support for EF and EF-S lenses, manual controls, autofocus and it will shoot720p/30/60 and 1080p/24/30/60 to 56Mbit/s MPEG-4.

Since that sounds great so far you will have to get that wallet ready. This rumored baby will cost you a buck or two more than what you expect to pay for it. The camcorder will sell for around $8,000 if it arrives. That being said, we’ll be waiting for other manufacturers to come up with similar concepts. After all, no one will want to leave Canon alone in this emerging market.
