Kodak to Fire 4,500 People

Should we be worried about Kodak’s future? The company will be firing 4,500 during 2009. It has reported a Q4 loss of $133 million. No wonder the executives are trying to recover some of that by cutting jobs. Kodak reported sales of $2.433 billion which is a 24% less than Q4 2007. Digital sales were at $1.799 billion which is 23% lower than a year before. Traditional revenues were $652 million which is 27% lower than in Q4 2007.
Antonio M. Perez, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Eastman Kodak Company said:
The second half of 2008 will go down in history as one of the most challenging periods we have seen in decades. We built significant momentum following the completion of our corporate transformation and our business results were on track through most of 2008, with digital revenue up 10% in the first half of the year, following double-digit growth in the second-half of 2007. However, during the last three months of the year, we experienced dramatic declines in several of our key businesses due to the slowdown in consumer spending and significantly reduced demand for capital equipment.
Will the these job cuts affect Kodak’s products?
