Leica M8 Camera Review

frontview-001-thumb.jpgShutterbug has reviewed the Leica M8 and lets just see what they have to say about this camera. The website looks pretty impressed by the M8 because of its image quality, its finesse and its form factor. However they didn't like the fact that the M8 couldn't shoot more than 10 full-res frames faster than 2 fps , the big battery charger and the expensive price tag.

The new Leica M8 is a rangefinder digital camera and has a resolution of 10 megapixels. The camera can also be hooked up with the Tri Elmar M 16-18-21 mm F4 Aspherical lens which promises to provide optimized results at specific focal lengths. The M8 accepts all Leica lenses produced from 1954 onwards and also supports formats like DNG (RAW), JPEG (Fine / Basic) and DNG + JPEG. One will also find a 2.5 LCD and an electronic viewfinder in addition to Shooting Modes like; Single picture (one shutter button depression, one picture), Continuous (2 frames per second up to 10 frames) and Self-timer (2 or 12 second delay).

In the end the website writes "Is it worth the money? Yes, if you savor its unique virtues, which are considerable. Apparently there are lots of people who do—one leading Leica dealer has orders for well over 200 M8s. And even in the wake of the Internet brouhaha, sales are increasing and nobody’s canceling their order. It’s all kind of heartwarming, because if any rangefinder camera deserves to make an adept and successful digital transition, it’s the venerable Leica M."

Leica C-Lux 1 Review

lux1.gifDigital Camera Review have done an in-depth analysis of Leica C-LUX 1 and they like the digicam for its image quality, its user-friendly controls, its overall built quality, its versatility, its fast performance and its battery life. What they didnt like was the digicams high price tag, its tendency to produce noise and the lack of manual controls.

The Leica C-Lux 1 is a 6 mega pixel, 28-102mm zoom digital camera whose focal length would be equivalent to a 28-102 mm in the 35 mm format. It features a High resolution 2.5-inch display and can record movie clips at either 30 fps or 10 fps in 16:9 format with 848 x 480, 4:3 format with 640 x 480 or in 4:3 format with 320 x 240 pixels. Memory can be extended via a SD card and Scene Modes include portrait, soft skin, landscape, sport, night portrait, night landscape, self-portrait, food, party, candlelight, fireworks, starry sky, snowed and Flash Modes include either automatic flash on with or without pre-flash (to combat red-eye), manual flash on (fill-in flash) with or without pre-flash, SLOW for slower shutter speeds (with pre-flash), flash off.

The review concludes "Overall this is an excellent camera for anyone looking for a high end point and shoot to carry along day to day. Perhaps as a compliment to your M series Leica? It performs well, looks good and is easy to use. Its made well and has excellent battery life. It's an overall excellent camera."
