Los Angeles And Cameras Just Don’t Mix

So coming hot on the heels of yesterday’s newsy bit where the LAPD was having the devil’s own time trying to get those darned cameras that were recommended for installation back in 1991, comes the announcement that Los Angeles authorities want to DOUBLE the size and scale of their red light camera project.

And with good reason, too–apparently the current red light camera program took in fully six million bucks and change after assorted expenses in just one year.  So cash-strapped Los Angeles, in the midst of cash-strapped California, can hardly be blamed for taking a hard look at picking up a few extra bucks from traffic cameras, right?

Wrong.  The people, meanwhile, are pretty much universally incensed by such an idea, judging merely from the comments section of the L.A. Now section of the Los Angeles Times’ web site.  Most everyone appears to hate this idea, at least most everybody who reads L.A. Now and cares enough to leave a comment.

So Los Angelinos out there–look for this move to be an uphill and hotly fought battle.
