Navteq digital mapping software

Sony is kicking it up a notch in the world of digital video cameras by adding GPS technology to some of its best-selling models. The Sony HDR-XR520V, HDR-XR500V and HDR-XR200V video cameras all now include Navteq digital mapping software that will tag videos and photos to show where they were taken. The GPS technology enables users to pinpoint the precise location at which an image was recorded—a technology that is likely to hold special appeal for vacationers and world travelers.

The geo-tagged stills and videos can be played back on the camcorders by pressing the pinpointed location on a touch-sensitive LCD.  The future trend in small electronics for the moment definitely involves including all the most trendy applications in one device (like GPS, touch screen interfaces), but it will be interesting to see how that all shakes out.  Only customers will be able to tell, over time, how many of these features are truly enjoyable or useful.
