New Liquid lens for Cameras

New liquid lens is the latest innovation of the researches at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. The lens is capable of capturing about 250 images at a moment. It is made of water globules, which vibrate when high-frequency sound is released through their elements. This vibration helps to alter the Focus of the lens conveniently.

“The lens is easy to manipulate, with very little energy, and it’s almost always in focus - no matter how close or far away it is from an object,” said project leader Amir H. Hirsa, professor and associate department head for graduate studies in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Nuclear Engineering at Rensselaer. “There is no need for high voltages or other exotic activation mechanisms, which means this new lens may be used and integrated into any number of different applications and devices.”

Beautiful pictures can be taken electronically meanwhile any out-of-focus frame gets automatically eliminated by the software. Using two water droplets and a sound wave set at a particular frequency, the researches have improved the focal length of the image.
