New Orleans Crime Camera Jury Pool Not Taking Information Blackout Well

I’ve always had a problem with the whole “outside information” concept of juries–why exactly do we WANT juries to go in poorly informed again?  That just plain doesn’t make sense.

But apparently New Orleans likes its juries dumber than rocks, because the judge in the case is poised to have a little “talk” with the jury, who’s been accessing information about their upcoming trial involving a security camera company that hasn’t been living up to its contractual expectations, or so the city says.

One potential juror said during questioning that the case was being discussed in the jury room and another said a woman had copies of information on the case in the jury room.

This is evidently a big no-no–something about having advance information shapes opinion too far in advance.  But the point is, there’s a fair chance they’re going to have to get a new jury in place before the trial can go much farther.  Hopefully it won’t do too much damage, though, at the worst only requiring a couple jurors be replaced if any at all.
