Nikon Announces New 3D Image Conversion Service For Photo Frames

Today, Nikon Japan announced that it intends to start an online service for converting regular 2D pictures into 3D to make them compatible for a 3D photo frame. This December, Nikon will offer the service to Japanese members of “my Picturetown”, an online photo sharing and storage service that the company already owns.

Furthermore, a 3D digital photo frame called the NF-300i will be rented to users who choose the conversion service and glasses aren’t needed for viewing 3D images on the frame. The NF-300i is measured at 176 x 156 x 50mm, weighs 600g and features a 7.2-inch LCD screen, 800×600 resolution, 400cd/m2 brightness, Android 2.1, 4GB internal memory, an Ethernet port, a USB port and Wi-Fi. It also comes with a remote control as well.

In addition to this, users can even share 3D pictures with each other on “my Picturetown” and through the photo frames while Nikon aims to provide its own 3D content, pictures and videos. Thus, the company will charge users $25 a month or $250 a year to use the 3D image conversion service and rent the NF-300i photo frame. They’ll also offer a storage upgrade from 2GB to 20GB for an extra $4.30 per month.
