Nikon Coolpix S70 Camera Review–Not Near So Floppy As Indicated

So it was recently announced here–back in December, in fact–that the Nikon Coolpix S70 is a flop.  Now, I’m not the type to take everything at face value, so I went to give it a try myself.  And I’ll admit, it’s got some distinct floppy in it, though not necessarily the flop that some were calling it.

The Nikon S70 is a twelve megapixel camera that offers a 5x optical zoom with augmenting 4x digital zoom with NIKKOR lens and optics, a three and a half inch OLED screen, hybrid optical AND electronic VR image stabilization systems, scene auto selector with a host of scene modes, smile shutter feature that also alerts you to a blinking subject, touch autofocus with auto exposure, a variety of white balance and flash modes, special photo effects including a Skin Softening mode, twenty megs of onboard memory with Secure Digital memory card compatibility, USB interface, direct printing and editing software.

If this is a flop I’d hate to see the kind of magnificence those folks would call a good camera, because I say this sucker’s unbelievable.  It includes a variety of features I don’t usually see on a camera, a nice zoom for a compact model (you’re lucky to see 2x or even 3x and this sucker’s carrying a five), and sure, it’s a bit on the thin side but even this doesn’t affect control too badly.

And it’ll offer all this for three hundred bucks.  Now, that IS pretty pricey for a compact digital camera, especially one boasting only twelve megapixel, but there’s a lot else to consider here.  The sheer array of features makes this one worth a second look, and makes the Nikon S70 anything BUT a flop.
