Nikon D700

The D700 is Nikon’s first compact SLR, in the same general category as the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and the Sony DSLR A900. The imaging side of the D700 looks pretty much the same as the Nikon D3, but the shutter speed is different (150,000 exposures rather than the 300,000 of the larger camera) and the D700 has a different viewfinder prism and a slower burst rate.

There is also no room for a rear LCD info panel on the D700’s more compact body. The Nikon D700 is a professional grade camera, with a retail price of right around $2,999, but Nikon backs this price up with professional grade service.  Professional photographers who love Nikon’s larger D3 but want a camera that is less cumbersome to haul around will not be disappoint—the differences between the two are minimal, and the fact that the D700 is $2000 less expensive is also welcome.
