Nobel Prize in Physics Awarded to CCD Inventors
The two inventors of the charge-coupled device otherwise known as the CCD have been granted the Nobel Prize in Physics. William Sterling Boyle and George Elwood Smith will share the honor and the cash prize with another well known physicist, Charles Kuen Kao who brought us the principles of fiber optics which make it possible for us to enjoy high speed Internet among other things.
Boyle and Smith have won lots of other prices for the invention of the CCD but the Nobel Prize is the most impressive of them all and they definitely deserve our congratulations.
