New miCard memory card –Plug into USB?

The Multi Media Card Association's has introduced a new miCard which has dual interfaces. One set of contacts mirrors the normal MMC pact, while a new set grant direct compatibility with USB 2.0 and would run at the full 480 Mbps. This miCard is12mm wide by 1.95mm thick and has been made in a way to plug straight into a USB connector. Since miCard is smaller than a standard MMC, an automatic adaptor will allow the use of the new cards in an SD/MMC slot. It is expected that the future portable devices such as cameras, phones and PDAs will be incorporating these dedicated miCard slots. This is surely going to prove itself to be a symbol of real advancement of technology.
"MMCA developed the miCARD specification to provide manufacturers a solution that is adaptable and convenient for consumers," said MMCA chairman Yves Leonard. "Adding USB 2.0 capability to a memory card provides an interface that is compatible with existing products and widely recognized by general consumers."
