Olympus E-3 DSLR Review–The First DSLR I Can Recommend
So I’ve got a new Olympus DSLR to talk about, and normally, I’m always a little nonplussed about them. DSLRs are a lot of camera–a lot more camera than most people will ever need or even use. But today is a bit different. Today we’re tackling the Olympus E-3, and I actually approve of this one despite its enormous price tag.
The Olympus E-3 is a ten megapixel DSLR that offers 2.5 inch LCD HyperCrystal monitor, dust reduction system, TruePic III digital image processor, Live View shooting that basically lets you see exactly what you’ll get when you shoot a picture before you even shoot, Supersonic Wave Drive image stabilization system, through the lens autofocus, a variety of white balance controls, built-in auto flash, simultaneous video and still recording, dual media card slots, with support for CompactFlash, Microdrive and xD-Picture cards, USB interface and a magnesium alloy construction.
You know from experience that I’m usually the last person to approve of a DSLR, especially when the asking price is thirteen hundred bucks out at Best Buy. But this time, there’s a reason to change. See, I’m entirely in favor of a camera with extra-sturdy construction. It improves durability, and longevity. When you improve longevity, you, as a result, improve value. Sure, the performance is solid enough and the controls are a bit on the confusing side, but a well put together camera is worth extra money. You know the concept of something being the “last (whatever it is) you’ll ever buy?” The Olympus E-3 has a very good chance of being that thing.
And thus, I’m all in favor of the Olympus E-3, and would recommend it to those looking for a new camera.
