Olympus FE 5010 Camera Review–A Bit Too Small
I know that the big push in cameras is to make them smaller and smaller, up until the point that (I hope!) they get to be like Spider Jerusalem’s photo shades in Transmetropolitan–keyed to your optic nerve and take a picture just by pressing the side of the frames.
But for now, we’ve got stuff like the Olympus FE 5010, a twelve megapixel camera with a 5X optical zoom, a 2.7 inch LCD screen, advanced face detection systems, the ability to shoot in VGA video, and all in a package that weighs in at just under two pounds and lists for a surprisingly sweet one hundred and eighty bucks.
It’s a nice camera, sure enough–the controls are pretty smooth and the zoom is nice and tight for a 5X, but the one major problem I had was with the tiny buttons, especially the on/off switch. That thing was fairly tough to work with, and frankly, I don’t like it when my camera can’t turn on and off with something resembling ease.
However, for the most part, the Olympus FE 5010 will definitely take care of most, if not all, of your camera needs. Folks with big hands, however, need not apply.
